This analysis presents OSHA enforcement records side by side for the construction (NAICS 23) and manufacturing (NAICS 31-33) sectors. All figures are raw record counts, not normalized for workforce size, number of establishments, or OSHA inspection targeting and emphasis programs. Higher counts may reflect a larger workforce or different enforcement focus rather than differences in workplace safety.

These are the most frequently cited standards in OSHA inspection records for each sector. Citation frequency reflects inspection patterns and enforcement focus, not necessarily the prevalence of underlying hazards across the whole sector.
Construction is defined as NAICS codes beginning with 23. Manufacturing includes NAICS codes beginning with 31, 32, or 33, consistent with the U.S. Census Bureau NAICS classification. All figures are raw record counts from the OSHA enforcement database, not normalized for workforce size, number of establishments, or inspection targeting programs.
Violation type codes follow OSHA definitions: S (Serious), W (Willful), R (Repeat). Penalty amounts reflect the latest amount on record (current_penalty), which may still be subject to change for cases without a final order date. The employer count is approximate, based on distinct establishment names in inspection records rather than linked establishment entities. Standards are identified by the OSHA standard number as recorded in violation data. This analysis covers all OSHA inspections in our database. Data sourced from the OSHA inspection and violation tables in the U.S. Department of Labor enforcement data API. Records are synced daily.
Data Source and Methodology
Data synced dailyData on this page comes from the U.S. Department of Labor's OSHA enforcement database, accessed via the DOL public data API. Records are updated daily. We strive for accuracy, but errors in data processing or establishment grouping are possible. Penalty amounts reflect the latest penalty amounts on record in the DOL database and may differ from initial assessments or final amounts after informal conference, settlement, or judicial review. Company pages group inspection records by normalized employer name, city, and state as reported in OSHA records. That grouping is deterministic and non-fuzzy, but it is not a universal legal-entity identifier. If you believe any record is inaccurate, please report it and we will investigate.
